SocioScape - a Tool for Interactive Exploration of Spatio-Temporal Group Dynamics in Social Networks

Publication: Proceedings of the IEEE Information Visualization Conference (INFOVIS ’09), Atlantic City, New Jersey We introduce SocioScape, an interactive tool for the visual exploration of spatially referenced, dynamic social networks. The tool combines a novel depiction methodology that illustrates the evolution of social groups with a spatio-temporal visualization showing the movement of these groups in the environment. The depiction technique used by SocioScape provides an alternative to graphs, allowing domain scientists to easily explore the evolution of the social structure and examine the role of the environment in shaping the social behavior of populations.
