As part of EVL’s focus to develop affordable and accessible advanced visualization technologies and systems for broad deployment to educational institutions, museums and other public venues, EVL co-invented the GeoWall with the University of Minnesota’s Geology Department in early 2001. The GeoWall is an affordable PC / Mac / Linux 3D passive-stereo projection display constructed using commodity components.

An early adopter of this technology was the SciTech Hands On Museum in Aurora IL. Visitors explore 3-dimensional, stereoscopic Earth and Space Science data in a highly interactive fashion using SciTech’s GeoWall system. It is among over 250 GeoWalls built and incorporated into educational programs and exhibits.

The SciTech installation has also assisted researchers and educators in better understanding how virtual reality and visualization techniques can aid in learning Space and Earth Science using these technologies.
