ENDURANCE (Environmentally Non-Disturbing Under-ice Robotic ANtarctiC Explorer) (SAGE™ Collaboration)Collaborative work session in EVL’s CAVE2 - L. Long, EVL
Researchers: Alessandro Febretti, Andrew Johnson, Electronic Visualization Laboratory; Peter Doran, UIC Earth and Environmental Sciences Department; Stone Aerospace; NASA Ames Research Center; Montana State University
Funding: NASA This application uses EVL’s SAGE™ software to display both 2D and 3D data in the CAVE2™ Hybrid Reality Environment. In a collaborative session, participants can compare and contrast a variety of digital media sources towards better understanding and discovery. The NASA-funded ENDURANCE project (Environmentally Non-Disturbing Under-ice Robotic ANtarctiC Explorer) analyzes biogeochemical information captured by an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in the extreme environment of West Lake Bonney, a perennially ice-covered Antarctic dry valley lake in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica to apply what is learned to planetary science, such as capturing and analyzing information about the water ice surface of Jupiter’s moon, Europa. Using the expansive CAVE2 display environment coupled with the ability to simultaneously mash-up a wide range of visual resources using SAGE significantly enhances the collaborative experience.
