Wabash Thread:CyberCulture The Academic Computing Department at Columbia College is pleased to announce Steve Jones, social historian, and editor of _Digital Formations_ and _New Media Cultures_, will present a lecture entitled “Internet Research and Everyday Life” as part of the Department of Academic Computing’s Thread:Print:Online:Salon show, Friday, May 2, 2003, at 5:30pm at Columbia College. The presentation will address matters of community connectedness and belonging as they pertain to social relations online and offline. The most recent findings from the Pew Internet and American Life Project will be presented. Help us welcome this distinguished speaker, concurrent with the Salon:On.Line:Print party and art exhibition taking place on our floor that evening. Steve Jones is author / editor of numerous books, including _Doing Internet Research_, _CyberSociety_, _Virtual Culture_, and _Pop Music and the Press_. He is editor-in-chief of _The Encyclopedia of New Media_. A social historian of communication technology, his books have earned him critical acclaim and interviews for stories in Time, the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsweek and numerous other newspapers and magazines. Jones serves as Senior Research Fellow for the Pew Internet & American Life Project and is co-founder of the Association of Internet Researchers, serving as its president from 1999 to 2003.
