Over the past decade, the creation of virtual reality (VR) artwork has flourished, emerging as a primary focus for electronic artists / designers who enter and complete EVL’s Master of Fine Arts, Electronic Visualization program. VR art environments have proven a fertile application area for the use and implementation of EVL’s research developments; blending art, science, technology and research continues to be the focus of EVL’s creative mission.
Current electronic art research focuses on the creation of art works that utilize the most recent advanced visualization display devices, software, and techniques that have been developed at EVL for the creation of interactive and collaborative projects.
EVL provides artists access to the latest advanced visualization tools and hardware to create high-resolution, immersive, interactive environments and to promote computer-based art. Examples of such work are interactive / shared-context / collaborative and remote-collaborative exhibition pieces that involve audiences in the creation of high-resolution visualization environments and the narrative structure of the projects.
EVLers actively display their artwork in international exhibitions and conferences; the annual SIGGRAPH, ISEA and Mediartech conferences and the Ars Electronica Festival are among the more notable venues featuring the work of EVL’s students and faculty. EVL VR art is also part of the permanent collection at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria, and has been exhibited at the InterCommmunication Center, Tokyo, Japan and Walker Art Center, Santa Fe Art Institute, Ukranian Institute of Modern Art in the U.S.
